Filing Hard Copies

Under some circumstances you can serve and file hard copy papers instead of using NYSCEF. To do this you must serve and file a Notice of Hard Copy Submission Form with your hard copy papers. Visit Forms to find the one for your court. You must e-file the papers within the next 3 business days.

Reasons you might file hard copies:

  • Emergencies. If your computer is not working and if the deadline for serving your papers is about to expire you can file hard paper copies with the court. You must serve and file the Notice of Hard Copy Submission Form and a notarized Affidavit explaining the emergency. You must e-file the papers within the next 3 business days.
  • NYSCEF website is not working, If NYSCEF has a technical failure you may file hard paper copies with the court clerk. But you must e-file within the next 3 business days after NYSCEF is working again.
  • Law or Court Order directs hard copy filing.
For more information on when you can file hard copies with the court contact the Resource Center. If you don't want to e-file in this case ever again, read Stop E-filing.
